AYP Website Cards to Hand Out (print them here)
« on: February 11, 2006, 06:13:07 AM »
Very often, I find myself in the predicament of having a conversation regarding AYP and having to tell someone the web site info verbally, hoping they will remember it.

I think a great solution to this (as well as a great help in spreading the word) would be AYP business cards, containing the web address and a bit of info about the site. The cards are relatively cheap to get printed, and the postage shouldn't be very much at all to send them around to the members who think they would come in handy.

If for some reason this isn't feasible, maybe you can offer an official template that can be downloaded and printed on our printers at home, using perforated business card paper.  I would be happy to help in the design of the card or template if needed.

As another quick example: I also run a very forward thinking weekly lounge event on Miami Beach, and would love to have the cards on the tables there for the patrons to pick up.

In my opinion, the possibilities are endless when the information is easily accessible, and what better way than to have the members out on the streets with this information in hand.  [:)]

Hi Trip:

That is a great idea. Something simple -- an AYP site card with a couple of lines of information and the website address. A webpage template that anyone can print on standard business card paper is a good way to pass it on. Even printed on regular paper it could work if one does not mind doing some cutting.

Let me mull over what could be on it and I will be in touch. Or contact me if you have something already.

Hi All:

Trip did a great job designing an AYP card that can be used to hand to people you would like to pass the website address to.

They are laid out 10 on a page in Adobe PDF format, here:

http://www.aypsite.com/plus/aypcards.pdf

They can be printed in either black and white or color (logo is in color).

They are set up for standard scored 10 card business card stock for easy separating, and the corners are marked for cutting too. I have not tried the scored card stock yet, but have printed some on plain white paper and they look good. Have a few in the wallet already.

Feel free to print these out in mass so everyone on the planet can have one. [8D]

Thanks much, Trip!

The guru is in you.

You're quite welcome.  Now let's spread the word!  :)

Quick side note:

When printing on scored business card paper, make sure the Page Scaling Option is set to "None" in the printing options (the options box will automatically pop up when printing).  Otherwise it shrinks the document by 3% and throws the cards off a bit.

I'm working on a solution to this now, but wanted to give everyone a heads up for the time being.  Please post in here if there are any other issues with downloading/printing the cards.

Hi Trip:

Very nice of you to do this for AYP, I think it a great idea.

Where or how can someone like myself with little computer expertise go to get these printed? If I went to Kinko's would they be able to print them if I gave them the e-address.

Thanks again;

Guy

Hi Guy,

That should work. You could also download this file http://www.aypsite.com/plus/aypcards.pdf
and choose to save it to a diskette (the A drive), then bring it to Kinko's and they will be able to print it out on your choice of paper.

And, Trip, this was a great idea do do the business cards!

Great cards trip!

I am researching the cheapest places on the net that will upload a
picture, print the cards, and send them to me.

Can you post a picture of just one card, or is there a way to get that
from the multiple card .pdf file?

Thanks,
Etherfish

Added Later:
i checked with Kinko's here (it is now "Fedex Kinkos" & for people outside the USA, it is a place that does self service copying, computer printing, etc.) They were kinda pricey. It's definitely cheaper if you can print your own at home. They said $1.24 per color page to print plus they would cut them up for $18. for any lot up to 500 pages.
So i searched the net for people who would upload an image, print cards and send them to me, and found the best deals are on Ebay.

Etherfish,

You will generally get higher quality if you print the .pdf file that Trip has posted than if you convert it to an image file and then print it. But, if you want to, you can capture any area of the .pdf file with a good image editing program like Paint Shop Pro. You would need to zoom in to at least 300% in Adobe Reader, then capture one card, then resize it in the image program with at least 300 pixels per inch resolution and to the final print size for a business card before you save and upload it. Or, if you want to I could email you a high resolution image of one card as an attachment that would be ready to print.

Hi Etherfish & Weaver,

I'll make up a high resolution image of one card and email it over to Yogani tonight so he can host it from the site.

Hi All:

Here is the single high resolution card image Trip made for professional level printing:

http://www.aypsite.com/plus/aypcard300dpi.jpg

Here are his comments that go with it:

"I've attached the single business card in JPG format to this email.  The reason it looks bigger than usual on your screen is because it is 300DPI as opposed to standard screen 72DPI.  I've printed many cards/flyers in the past through professional printers, and this is the way they request the files be sent.  I substituted the high-res AYP logo into the card so when printed it should turn out beautiful."

Thanks much Trip!

Thanks Trip; that's exactly what i wanted.
Do you happen to have the logo by itself also so I could experiment with the wording?
Thank you.

Hi Etherfish,

The logo was created by Yogani, so you'd have to ask him about that.  :)
