If I exercise earlier in the day and don't drink caffeine after lunch and do not nap, my sleep is better. Inversions or forward bends before bed such as legs up the wall help. So does tulsi tea or camomile. I will play the Swami Ji Yoga Nidra if I wake and it does work. Always wake the same time each day. Have you tried nadi shodhana?

Hi.
I have never had insomnia before. But, here is what I do. When you feel sleepy, find where the signal comes from in your head. Be there with your attention. And wait for dream picture that comes.

I think trying self hypnosis or progressive muscle relaxation may help you to
get rid of insomnia. I use an app on my iphone for the self hypnosis stuff and it does help sometimes. Still sometimes nothing helps, but at least I try! Also using the bed only for sleep and sex is a help. Also do not have an alarm clock with bright lights where you can see the time. Or cover it. That leads to anxiety as you watch the clock waiting to fall asleep. The later the time the more anxiety the later the time, etc.

Alanna,
Welcome to the forum. To fall asleep it helps to have a bedtime routine. A bedtime routine is a sequence of things that you do every evening, to let you body and mind know that you will soon go to bed. It could include dimming the lights, light stretches, a cup of tea, a shower or bath, putting some comfortable pajamas, reading a book in bed, maybe reviewing the day, relaxation, cosmic samyama if you practice it, etc. Ayurveda recommends to go to bed and wake up at the same hour, every day.
Best wishes and let us know how you feel. Do you practice meditation?
