Yes, this is the way it is set up. If one person reads more than once, it must increase the read count. I think it would be complex to change this.

I guess what you are asking is if the read count can reflect the number of unique visitors only, and not advance if the same person reads again?

Hi ThisIsTruth:

You can get an idea about unique visitors to the AYP website and forums (the forums account for roughly 60%) by checking the website traffic statistics here: http://www.aypsite.org/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4975

You can also get to the stats from the link in the left side border of the website, under "more resources."

All the best!

I think what he means is the read count for an individual topic.

As it is now, if a new topic is started, and the person who wrote it goes back 80 times to edit, etc. , the read count will be 80, but actually nobody read it.

Hi Ether:

Not much we can do about that without software editing. And I don't think we'd want to get into it. You can be sure the 80 returns are not in the unique visitor count for the website though. [:)]

It is a matter of measuring "page hits" versus "unique visitors." On any website the page hits will be a multiple of unique visitors. The forum software measures page hits, not unique visitors, for better or worse.

PS: My visits are blocked from being counted in the website traffic stats, but they are counted here in the forums.

The read count is a neutral measure. It doesn't say who read the topic, just that it was read. If you look at it that way, it is a reliable measure, since it will count every time the topic was read. Of course, it could be done differently, but that simply was not the way the software was done. Actually, for the several forum software packages I have used, none counts the reads the way it is being suggested here.
