questions/suggestions on the AYP books
« on: January 31, 2006, 02:06:32 AM »
I've brought "Deep Meditation - Pathway to Personal Freedom" and "Advanced Yoga Practices" some weeks ago. But it seems that amazon doesn't have many copys so I am still waiting for their arrival.

My question is: after I bought the harder copy, is it poosible for me to look at the e-book version? I am asking because the e-book is probably more updated and thus contains more lessons.

My suggestion is to distribute the AYP books to more online bookstore, especially those selling yoga books at a lower price and/or more complete than amazon. (e.g. http://www.yogamatters.com) Then overseas buyers like me can save much (mainly shipping fee) by buying the AYP books and other yoga books with a single order at those bookstores. Other than that, the target group is more focused, I guess? And the additional distributors could probably help advertising AYP.

Hi Alvin:

The AYP ebooks have exactly the same content as the physical books, are not changing, and are sold separately. I am not set up to sell (or give) them to anyone -- it is quite involved to become an e-tailer/downloader of ebooks. I'd prefer to be a writer rather than a book seller. The ebooks go through the worldwide distribution channels and can be bought anywhere through many retailers at about half the price of the physical books. The physical books are distributed worldwide too, though it is not as easy to obtain them everywhere around the world due to shipping costs. Where did you order from? Amazon Japan is closest to you, but not all Amazon sites discount the same or have the books immediately available. Larger discounts can sometimes offset higher shipping costs, and if the books are immediately available (like at Amazon USA) the wait can be less even though the distance is more.

There could be other book sellers close by, including e-tailers. It depends on who is interested in selling the books. See the Google links near the bottom of the books page for many more sources for the AYP books and ebooks around the world: http://www.aypsite.com/plus/books.html

It takes time to develop fluid distribution of physical books. Once the initial broad distribution ordering channels have been set up, which has been done, the greatest single factor in retail availability is customer demand. Think about it. If you owned a bookstore, would you carry a book that no one was coming in and asking for? Only if you made it your project to sell that book to the public. For the rest, you'd have to go with what people were coming in looking for, or go broke. That is why retailers can't afford to stock books for purely idealistic reasons. Their survival is at stake. A lot is being done to inform retailers everywhere about the AYP books. They will be in at least four big trade shows this year with huge international attendance by book sellers. But if the public is not asking for the books, the stores will not be doing much to promote them. Bookstore walk-ins by readers are a great way to increase awareness, and getting the books on the shelves can be achieved that way. But it will take more people walking in buying them to fuel the process. It is the same with e-tailers. They will stock the books in their warehouse only if there is demand. Amazon does stock the AYP books in the USA, and on a limited basis in the UK, but not in Canada, the rest of Europe or Japan. That is another reason why you have to wait. They are ordering the books after you are ordering them. It takes 48 hours for the printer to ship an order from the USA or UK to the retail seller. That all has to happen before the retailer can ship the books to you. Once it is stocked in the e-tailer's warehouse, then it is out the door to you within 24 hours when you order on the web.

The best thing we can do to promote the AYP books and increase distribution is to increase public demand. If public demand increases, more booksellers will carry them in stock. Also, with increasing public demand, it will be much easier to publish the books locally in India, China, Australia, and other places that are far from the current sources in the USA and UK. Every publisher, distributor and bookstore wants a book that the public is asking for. Customer demand. It will take time. Years. Maybe many years. AYP is not going out of style any time soon. In the meantime, the best primary focus for me to have is on completing the writings, which will take a few more years, at least. Then maybe I will have more time to be a salesman. [xx(]
I am hoping all of you will help fill in before then. [:p]

Thanks so much for your support. Sorry you have to wait. Hopefully someday no one will have to wait for spiritual knowledge. I am doing the best I can. I hope you understand I cannot give it all away online without going broke myself -- which would stop AYP dead in its tracks. Plus, I think it is very important to have the books out there, independent of the Internet. We need to find a balance, with support coming from all sides. It cannot be from one side only. That will not work in the long run. The process of spreading this kind of knowledge needs many supporters willing to take appropriate actions over a long period of time.

It is a long term process -- like practices -- gradually dissolving obstructions so the divine can flow through us and out into the world. We'll get there, in every way...

Sure I don't mean physical bookstore, and I don't mind waiting for some weeks. In the case of spiritual books, it's not that few weeks that would change much of my practices.

I don't know how online bookstore are running, but I notice that some bookstore (like the one I mentioned) have a great many yoga books in their catalog, including those which (I believe) have a much less demand than the AYP books. I'm sure those bookstores don't have them in stock. So may be it's possible to make the AYP books appear on their catalog without being on their stock??

Hi Alvin:

If you suggest to http://www.yogamatters.com that they list and carry the AYP books, they can do it. Simple as that. As mentioned, the AYP books are available to retailers (including online ones) through major distributors in the USA and UK -- http://www.aypsite.com/plus/books.html

Just as we can do physical walk-ins requesting our local bookstores consider carrying the AYP books, we can also do online walk-ins. It is the same thing.

All the best!

PS -- Oh, guess what?
http://www.yogamatters.com does have the AYP Easy Lessons book -- Here. Good price too. But they have not listed the other AYP books yet. Looks like they need recommendations on the Secrets of Wilder and Deep Meditation. Apparently that is how they select their offerings -- by recomendations from yogis/yoginis.

They also have a yoga store in North London. A place for somebody to do an AYP walk-in! Pick up a yoga mat and a leotard while you are there. [:)]
