The timing of our daily practices

    I'm very happy to see this forum created! Sunday I bought Yogani's
book on Amazon and can't wait for it to arrive.

I have a question for the group. I've been doing meditation for a
while now. I believe it is directly responsible for some positive
changes in my life, from renewed spiritual growth to a feeling of
pervasive peace.

I generally do my morning meditation practice around 6 am on
weekdays. Lately, because my work life is under intense pressure
from project deadlines, I've been doing my afternoon meditation
around noon rather than after work. It helps me release stress from
the morning and prepare for the afternoon's work with a calm
attitude, which seems to make problem solving with other team
members easier.

I'm thinking of making the noon practice my normal afternoon
practice time rather than after work, even when my work projects
cool down. It seems to me that if we find a method that feels right
to us, we should follow that path.

Does anyone think the timing during the day of our practices matters
that much or that we need to have our mediations spaced a given
distance apart?

Just curious.

do it lunchtimes for various reasons. I think it was said in the
lessons that the effects last from between five and ten hours so its
probably better to space it, but if this is not possible you just
have to get it in when you can don't you!!!

    Dear Kathy,

To me, the timing of the day does not matter. As long as there are
several hours between meditations; whatEVER works, DO IT!!!

I, too had similar questions.. I have 2 small children in pre-school,
and my husband arrives later. SO, for myself, I have found practicing
my second meditation around 2p.m., TO BE EXTREMELY effective, and
leaves me ready to pick-up the boys from school and onto evening
activities. My first is around 5-6a.m.

Whatever feels right and good, I say, KEEP UP!!! YES!!! YES!!!

I read with interest and note the timing of your
practice, in the long and short term all that really
matters is how best it works for you, once it is
applied with the uniform consistency and the deep
passion as well as the desire of discipline to perform
the art of your Yogic practices, As for me i usually
do my practices between 4am-6am !!!a light Pranayama
in the evening, Its been over 10yrs with this
knowledge, where i combine Rajastic as well Kyria
techniques into my Yogic practice I am about to order
the AYP book shortly..... For me this time works and I
am able to walk the 9th mile of being calm and in
control, as I work in the field of Psychiatric /Mental
Related Issues Clients.Yogic practices has allowed me
to see much more clearer insight into my clients at a

    Hi Kathy,

I had the same situation as you for a couple of months but the other
way around - doing the "morning" meditation around noon and the
evening one in the evening. I was able to progress with adding more
practices without disturbance so it is possible. From other people I
have heard that it is better to try and have even intervals of
activity between meditations but I don!t know how important it is.

    I'd like to say thank-you to all the forum members who shared their
views on the timing of our daily meditation practices!! There seems
to be two schools of thought here! I think I'll try to steel my
discipline and go back to meditating when I get home after work. But
if that just doesn't work, I won't feel badly about meditating at
lunch. I guess that is better than no second daily meditation!

I have found meditating just before lunch or dinner when you are somewhat hungry as the best time.

My guru puts no restriction on times or amount, just that you do it.
In fact she encourages as much meditation as possible and I try for at
least 1-2 hrs daily if I can.Even if I can only manage 10 minutes over
and above I will take the opportunity to take it.It is recommended to
meditate on an empty stomach as the energy flow is easier just as if
you try to get flow through an empty pipe.We are also encouraged to
use japa as much as possible during the day and also to start chanting
the mantras as we go to sleep to get effect during our sleep.

    Dave, I just read AYP lesson 195 "Mantra, Thoughts and Attention"
this morning. Yogani addresses japa in that lesson so I think I've
gleaned what it is... Funny timing that I should review that lesson
today. :)

Japa is chanting of the mantra in your head as much as possible so you
get an effect on the energy system as you walk around, or whatever you
are doing at the time.Yogic mantras that are given by the guru have
more effect but almost any sound can be used as a mantra and gain some
effect.The TM mantras are similar to the I AM mantra but the sanskrit
ones are usually longer and have different uses.As well as meditation
the mantras are normally used for japa although not always the same
ones for each.

    4 a.m. to 6 a.m. is brahma muhurta and is best for any spiritual practice as it is the time when the sattva guna is predominant. so you promote the sattva guna if, you do your daily spiritual practices during this period.
