Here is a free asana video:
http://yoga.org.nz/yoga_vidoes.htm

I thought it was quite well done but perhaps the folks who know more abt asana (pretty much everyone else here[:p]) can comment better.

Not great. They needed to get yogis rather than stud muffins to demo the poses (they're off in a zillion ways), and the instructions aren't anything particularly helpful.

Sorry! You get what you pay for!

Rodney Yee's just as studmuffinesque, but he 1. really knows yoga, and 2. has insightful things to say. And he has lots of videos out (search for them used on half.com)

Thank you very much for the info Jim. Later on if I have the chance I will check out the one you recommend. Well I only saw 2 videos so far and both looked good to me because I don't know too much. I thought this one is not bad for free. I can't judge how yogic these guys are as they are doing some asanas better than me so they must be better yogis or something.

I have been failing for years to get any of my friends to check out anything related to yoga and with these guys maybe I can have more success who knows [:o)].

I have started practising meditation regularly and want to add asanas which gets integrated to the whole process, though the number of asanas are available at endless sources, I am finding it difficult in selecting. If only, Yogani lists the asanas in next lesson for the greater benefit of people like me, who do not have access to his book (and online also). Hope I am not asking for too much.

Hi Guy:

There is an "asana starter kit" in the AYP Easy Lessons book. There is also quite a lot of other additional material in there beyond the online lessons. Few seem to realize this, as few have been ordering the book. See list of additions here: http://www.aypsite.com/plus/book-additions.html

Later this year a small, low cost AYP Enlightenment Series book on "Asanas, Mudras and Bandhas" will be coming out. Until then, the AYP Easy Lessons book is the only source for AYP instructions on asanas.

The philosophy on asanas from the AYP point of view (putting them in perspective in relation to the rest of yoga) can be found here: http://www.aypsite.com/plus/71.html and http://www.aypsite.com/plus/149.html

Hi Yogani:

Thanks for the reply. I have the AYP easy lessons book but to be honest I've just perused it. I've now found the section you mentioned and will explore it in detail. I'm fairly new to yoga and it would be nice to someday have a AYP asana video or DVD. Thanks again for all your help.

Warmest regards

Guy

Hi Yogani:
I understand you have listed the details in "Asana starter kit" in the books. The point is I do not have access to books in India, till the books are made available, my sole access is for the online lessons, hence, if atleast the list of asanas are mentioned in order to perform that will be of great help to complete the package of practices.

Hi Kdhanraj:

All of the AYP books are available worldwide in ebook format. That does not seem to stop people from constantly asking me for information that is already in the books.

Since all is done in good faith here, I have stopped everything and assembled the list for the "asana starter kit" from the AYP Easy Lessons book for you:

(about a 10 minute routine)

1. Heart centering warm-up
2. Knees to chest roll
3. Kneeling seat (vajrasana)
4. Sitting head to knee (janushirshasana, paschimottanasana and/or maha mudra)
5. Shoulder stand (viparitakarani or savangasana)
6. Plow (halasana)
7. Seal of yoga (yoga mudra)
8. Cobra (bhujangasana)
9. Locust (shalabhasana)
10. Spinal twist (ardha matsyendrasana)
11. Abdominal lift (uddiyana and nauli)
12. Standing back stretch (urdhvasana)
13. Standing toe touch (padahastasana)
14. Corpse pose (shavasana)

Abbreviated "standing" routine (a couple of minutes for when on-the-go)

1. Standing spinal twist
2. Abdominal lift
3. Standing back stretch
4. Standing toe touch
5. Corpse pose (if a place to lie down is available)

Either of these routines is done before sitting practices. If you would like more details, kindly purchase the ebook, for your own sake and for the sake of others (furthering the AYP work).

All the best!

The guru is in you.

Hi Yogani,
Thank you very much for your considerate reply.  Sorry to say I have my own problems in procuring ebook, I am eagerly waiting for the anouncement of the books available in India for procuring.

With the list of asanas just you mentioned, now I can make my practises complete with integration, thanks a lot again.

Hi Kdhanraj:

In time, we will succeed in having the AYP books published in India, reflecting local costs, which will solve this. In the meantime, I am looking to see if there is a way to make the ebooks more affordable there.

There is obviously a lot to work with here online at no cost, so please do continue to partake. Your participation in the discussion is much appreciated.

Wishing you the best on your path. Enjoy!
