Hello all. After laser surgery to remove my frenulum (surprisingly the dentist had never had anyone ask for a lingual frenectomy for our purposes before :-D), and lots of pushing my tongue backwards with my thumb I've finally got behind my uvula and up into my nasal cavity. I was expecting to be able to find my septum without much effort, but it seems I can only get my tongue a centimetre or two beyond the elastic tendon in the soft palette.
I'm wondering if perhaps my tongue is just too wide. I can get a little further if I push it forwards while contracting it to make it narrower, but it's not something I could comfortably hold during practice.
Is this most likely just a teething problem that will sort itself out as the elastic tendon stretches more, or are some peoples' tongues too wide to push further into the nasal cavity? I've not read of anyone else mentioning this issue before. But then it did take me months of pushing my tongue back to reach the back of my soft palette despite having literally no frenulum now, and months more to work out how to get my tongue behind the uvula - even going round the side my tongue was too wide. I've found that by bending forward, gravity can assist, as well as saying "Aahh".
