Yahoo AYP Forum Archive Threads / Secrets of Wilder
« Last post by AYPforum on July 15, 2005, 03:56:17 AM »
Thank you for that kind note, Ramon. I'm glad you liked the novel!

If you have a chance, copying that in an Amazon.com review would help a lot. Doing it for the paperback on the USA and UK sites covers all the other Amazon Secrets of Wilder pages.

Here are the links:

USA: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0976465515/ref=ase_advancedyogap-20/002-4832960-2417621?v=glance&s=books

UK: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0976465515/advancedyogap-21/202-7630770-7857401?creative=6394&camp=1406&link_code=as1

Note -- I am working on getting that poor cover image fixed on Amazon USA. It's not the one I sent them.

The guru is in you.

Just a brief 'Thank you' to yogani for his novel 'The Secrets of Wilder.'
I don't read fiction anymore, but found this book a very interesting
doorway into the techniques of higher states of consciousness. For
those others in my family who would never read Advanced Yoga Practices
first-off, I think this may be a way to get them involved.
Again, many thanks to our anonymous 'mentor'. Coach? Teacher?

Hi Rob:

You are the first to report this, but it's still early. While I'm not
hi-tech, I have read that browser cookies must be turned on for
membership to work. If that is not it, then check support at:

http://forum.snitz.com

They are the forum software provider. It has been excellent so far, and
support has been helpful the few times I used it.

The guru is in you.

PS - Firewalls can sometimes prevent cookies from working. See here for suggestion on that:
http://forum.snitz.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=56465&SearchTerms=cookies

From that help link:

"Over the course of the past year, we have had a number of people who could not register, with the forums behaving as if they were not allowed to make cookies.

One of my forum members figured out what was going on. Apparently, some firewalls will not allow the creation of the cookie for getting past the acceptance screen. The solution to this is for the person to turn off their firewall, subscribe and turn it back on immediately. This has worked for about a half dozen folks on my forums so far who have had this problem.

Just thought I would share the information."

Yahoo AYP Forum Archive Threads / Pranayam and Vpassana
« Last post by msanjay75 on July 15, 2005, 02:33:01 AM »
Dear Satish,

Since I have practiced both Pranayaama as well as Vipassana, here is an answer based on my limited experience.

I would say neither is "better" - it depends on what you are looking for. I present my views here, and hope that will help you in finding your own answer to the question.

In a nutshell, I would say Pranayaama gave me results very quickly. Vipassana is something that needed some time and patience to learn.

So I suggest one could learn both - try Pranayaama first for some time - see and experience its benefits. It can make one feel very energetic and can give one very powerful experiences, esp when done regularly, for a prolonged period of time of say atleast half an hour each day. Often very pleasant conditions get created - and its beneficial effect can last for almost the whole day. Because it involves slight physical intervention like placing our hand over the nostrils and systematic breathing, it is preferably practiced or at some particular convenient circumstances, ideally sitting in a secluded place.

Then one can consider learning Vipassana in a 10 day course (http://www.dhamma.org/code.htm). Here the idea is to see things "as they are", with no external manipulation. I agree with Mahesh's explanation - here the idea is to be completely non-judgemental. One learns to *accept* things exactly as they already *now* are. As one learns to develop the sensitivity to observe things at a subtler and subtler level, one learns that even without specially creating any circumstances, whatever is already happening *now* is quite extraordinary by itself! :-) A high level of energy is merely a probable consequence, but not the objective. So irrespective of whether one is feeling very energetic or not, one still feels very much at "one with oneself" - a fuller presence, as Ashwin has put. Over time, one can extend the practice to beyond the daily sittings, for example I am practicing now even as I type this post. Ideally, as practice stabililises over time, it can be done [to be precise, there is nothing to do, it just happens] 24 hours a day. As it is a completely inconspicuous background activity, there is minimal dependency on any special circumstances for the practice.

Best wishes,
Sanjay

Hello All:

Since last February when this Yahoo forum was launched, a few of us
have been working behind the scenes to come up with the means to
implement a much broader community of forums for readers of the
Advanced Yoga Practices lessons.

Thanks to inputs from a dedicated group of helpers, we now have the
new "AYP Forums" being launched today at:

http://www.aypsite.com/plus/forum

You will find a wide range of forums here covering just about every
aspect of spiritual practice and experience. While there is much
focus on the AYP open integrated system of practices, the forums are
also designed to include wide-ranging discussions on many related
topics, providing opportunities for cross-pollination with systems of
practice from every tradition around the globe.

There are 20 new forums on the website, plus the full Yahoo AYP forum
archives have been mirrored there as well.

This Yahoo site will continue to serve as an entry point to the new
AYP Forums for seekers on Yahoo looking for information and
discussions on yoga practices, and as an archive backup for the many
fine messages you all have posted here.

The AYP Forums are pretty much self-explanatory. Check first
the "Overview and Announcements" forum, where you will find
background and instructions for using the forums. Every forum has a
lead-in write-up from me on the subject being covered. Many of those
lead-in write-ups have new material in them, so be sure to take a
look. From there, it is up to all of you. These are your forums, and
they will soar as high in divine purpose as you can take them.

May you find the AYP forums to be a useful resource as you continue
along your chosen path. Practice wisely, and enjoy!

The guru is in you.

I found the "article" -- well, I didn't, Pat, another teacher and friend,
did. I wrote to her and asked her if she had read it. She remembered, and
found it. Yoga Journal, May/June 05. I was just looking through that very
issue this AM, and even have the page turned down, and even looked at the
very page, but was looking at the first article, not the second, which it
was. Geez....

Anyway, here's what it says:

The practice of rolling to the right has a symbolic as well as a
physiological basis. In India, it is considered more auspicious to enter a
holy place with the right foot, and in many parts of the world, we extend
our right hand in greeting. The right side also represents the east;
rolling toward the east, or the rising sun, symbolized asking for blessings,
grace, and bliss.

Physiologically, since your heart is on the left, when you roll to the
right, it remains open and free of pressure. Rolling to the right also
keeps the ida nadi (on of the main channels of prana, or the life force
[chi], which corresponds to cooling energy) active and helps keep your body
in a state of calmness as you come into a sitting position.

There is more pressure on your heart on the left side. This applies to
sleeping as well. It is advised to sleep on your right side.
