From the Introduction:

My path started when I was an adventurous child,
and likely long before that, though I did not recognize it
until stumbling into a daily meditation practice in the
early 1970s, which has been going ever since. This book
is to shed some light on the “middle years” of my path,
sharing prayers and poems written in the 1980s, about 15
years after beginning meditation, and about 15 years
before starting to write the Advanced Yoga Practices
(AYP) lessons in the early 2000s, which has gone on for
another 20 years since then.

This is a snapshot of what life was like for a busy
householder and career person more than a decade into a
daily meditation practice. By then, multiple additions to
practice had been implemented, with the establishment
of abiding inner silence (the witness) and kundalini
awakening, all eventually documented, expanded on and
refined in the AYP writings to assist a wide range of
practitioners...

...My public writing has always been about attempting
to help seekers develop and maintain an effective and
safe spiritual practice. My private writing, mostly long
ago, has been about my path. This book shares previously
private writings on what was occurring during the middle
stage of spiritual development, involving the active
(desperate!) surrender of the ego to the divine (blissful
inner silence), driven by the challenges of egoistical
living in the material world. The hope is that it will
provide some inspiration for others who find themselves
in similar circumstances on their path.

With intense bhakti (devotion) and established abiding
inner silence (witness), a merging to oneness with the
divine (non-duality) and an outpouring of divine love will happen.
It is a liberating experience, with benefits reaching far
beyond the individual practitioner...
