Title: International Translations of AYP Lessons & Books
Post by: yogani on August 28, 2005, 07:25:59 AM
Since 2004 there have been a number of international translations of the AYP online lessons undertaken.

The online lesson translation sites (more than 15) are listed on the main website International Translations page (http://www.aypsite.org/translations.html).

Translations of the AYP books, beginning with "Deep Meditation," can be found on the main books page (http://www.aypsite.com/plus/books.html#trans).

Note: On 12/3/08, a Google Automated Translation Tool covering about 60 languages was added at the bottom of all website and forum pages. 35 languages appear in the translator icon pull-down menu, and nearly 60 languages in another pull-down menu once the translator is launched with any language. The Google automated translations are gradually improving over time, and can be helpful with AYP lessons and forum discussions that are not covered in the human (manual) translations above.

The people who have been doing the international translations are the unsung heroes of AYP, and have my deepest gratitude. Because of them, many around the world have been able to read the lessons who would not have access to them otherwise.

If you are interested in translating part or all of the AYP lessons to another language, or assisting on an existing translation effort, please contact me directly. It is a wonderful way to help others, while at the same time deepen your experience of yoga. Here is what one translator had to say about his experience:

"I did a translation of the AYP site into Bulgarian, my native language. While doing this I have had experiences very similar to the shaktipat..."
http://www.aypsite.org/forum/topic.asp?whichpage=0.52&TOPIC_ID=350#336

The other translators have had similar experiences. In fact, I too consider myself to be a translator of the lessons -- into English from the original Inner Silence - Pure Bliss Consciousness -- and the experience of being filled with divine light by the work has been the same for me.

So, there is much to be gained from doing a translation of the AYP lessons. In the giving, we receive a thousand times over.

Any questions or comments you may have on international translations are welcome here.

Dear Yogani,
you wrote in the other forum:
On your Dutch translation of the lessons, that is great news. Do you have any inclination to post it on a website or moderator-posted only Yahoo group as you go, so others can read it? Of course, in Holland, most everyone reads English already, don't they? So maybe it is not so critical like in other countries.  End of Quote.

First of all, I would never post it on a website without your approval:-)  But yes, I am translating it for the benefit of those Dutch & Flemish people who are both not well versed in English (and outside of Amsterdam there are many),  as well as who really want to go for it (and there may not be many, I mainly know of many shoppers).  And as I translate it and osmose with it, I really absorb it very well, and that is a gift for me.

However, in this world of many shops as well catering for the shoppers:-), wow wouldn’t it be nice of there was true purity in the teachings, that’s what I like about the anonymous thing and that it is free, you can’t get it purer than that, without any self interest.
Furthermore, the idea of self pacing and crediting the practinioner with responsibility for themselves will be soooo much the solution for the next decade or so:-) Freedom invokes responsibility, but taking responsibility brings freedom, I could rave over this idea with another long letter (which Wolfgang might like:-)

I am a strong believer in the possibilities of the internet and have used it myself getting groups of likeminded people together and supporting them from all over the place, people who would never meet otherwise. It feels like a true manifestation of the principle of unity in freedom, each one at their own unique pace, space, and time, yet connected.

Now as to what I envision with regard to posting it on the web, frankly I was just going to translate them all first and then simply offer them to you. However, I can see the merit of publishing a new one weekly or biweekly or whatever already and just start.
I am not so fond of the Yahoo format.
I dont know whether you have huge amounts of space left on your website to cater for INDEED a relatively small group and have them posted on there (I can ftp:-) , but there are other ways, I’ve a friend who can help me set up something either completely free on a kind of blogsite, or what is maybe better, just get a site from him and a domain for a low price, I’m sure he will help me with that and the remainder of the costs I can donate. So you choose the URL, www.aypsite.nl ?

Now as to how far I ‘ve got, ---this summer I rediscovered pen and paper.  Picture me sitting in the sun under a few lovely pinetrees in a sacred space translating these lessons at leisure. Not only have I a lot to do otherwise, but I am slow in these things anyway, so I may only do 2/3 lessons per week...  My intention was to make use of the wonderful weather and get as much as possible transcribed and then enjoy myself on the computer in the winter typing it out, then it will have had the process of  two times going through the text and that improves it.
My sister is on a visit currently and she is very qualified as an editor (just left a job in editing a magazine). She also meditates and is extremely interested in this material. So she will go over the text for me.
Translating into Dutch is a funny thing, I have absolutely no problems any longer to do so, (that’s another story, I do think it was a gift from PY) but the Dutch culture is Calvinistic, and in truth, we have no spiritual foundation in our language. But as the “right” energy gets into the texts (I hope), it will appeal to the part of truth within all, (I also hope) :_)

All the best!

Hi Yogini:

Yes, by all means, do it. The internet medium (website, blog, etc.) and URL are your choice. Whatever works best for you and your readers. Sorry, I can't accommodate it on the AYP site.

The AYP website materials are fair game for translation and public viewing on the web. That is what they are for. Just provide one or more links back to www.aypsite.org for reference.

Beyond the online lessons are the AYP books, which are not available for free web viewing. If you want to translate the books, then we are talking about publishing books in Dutch, which would be wonderful. We can work with whatever your inclinations are.

Regarding open source practices, freedom and responsibility, you can bet I was holding my breath when AYP first went out for public viewing -- there have been so many dire predictions about how people will hurt themselves with open access to powerful spiritual practices. Well, it is not true. Everyone has been very responsible and actually brilliant in applying the practices with self-pacing. The level of responsibility displayed by everyone has been so impressive that there is even a short lesson on the subject here: http://www.aypsite.com/plus/217.html

It is exactly the opposite of the dire predictions -- more information leads to more responsibility, while less information leads to more desperate measures and more danger. So much for the dire consequences of open source spiritual practices.

Once you have a URL let me know and we can post it.

My Dutch genes say, thank you. Oops, the secret is out. Yogani wears wooden shoes and lives in a windmill in Florida! [8D]

Hey Yogini, you really seem to know me,
right on the spot !

As concerning to web-space: I am willing to provide enough space
on my website, only the name of the website is not directly
indicating AYP or yoga (it would be at http://www.odysseyofthesoul.de )
Feel free to contact me if you want to use my webspace.

Hi Wolfgang,
Wolfgang: wow, superb! I couldn't find your personal emailaddress and "contact" on your site does not work.... anyway,
I made a sample page, for I was sending this to this friend whom I thought could maybe create a free blog page for that once he had secured an URL, but this might be a much better idea, transgressing borders of countries all over:-) how would we go about uploading such pages at your site? I could ftp but well, you would have to give me your codes, uch, ...

Yogani: less information leading to more extreme measures and danger, (from your post above), well, I have read some more comments of other people on this board meantime (in the Amazon bookcomment section), and I think they all feel the same in this respect as I do, it was a revelation to read the information in the lessons and I can only NOW, after that I have this information, understand how much of my fears and/or interpretations were based on non information, riddles, and puzzles that occupied me endlessly  (and needlessly) for years, making things up to figure things out,  and going on faith (but faith in what...[:)]) I had no idea before. So I can understand the relevancy of what you say ENTIRELY[:)]

All the best!

Yogini informed me about the progress for dutch translation.
I provided the webspace and she uploaded the files.
The first pages can be viewed at:

As for the german translation: I joined the yahoo-group
and I am now set up and ready for posting.
As for the speed and amount of translations: can't promise anything,
so, don't blame me if nothing happens ;-)

Thanks very much, Yogini and Wolfgang.

Looks great, even if I can't read it. [:)]

Just a reminder to translate the "I AM" (AYAM) mantra phonetically for sound, and not for meaning.

I will add the Dutch link to the AYP translations list once a few more lessons are done. Same goes for your German effort, Wolfgang. Post the link here whenever you are ready.

Carry on!

re AYAM and I AM
If I pronounce AYAM, I would do that differently than if I would pronounce I AM. I translated I AM phonetically in how the English I AM sounds. ((That would be AYEM)
AYAM to me means that both A's pronounce like the A in Advanced... is this correct and should I AM then sound like that?

I have a few weeks of travel before me, and just returned from France, the translations of the next lessons will probably be a one or two next week, they just need typing out, and then in November onwards, I dont know yet how I'm off for time next week, not a whole lot currently (Full Moon coming up, grin.)  It's truly a gift for me to translate them though, I tend to do them still (writing them down on paper first) even without having the time:-) I am in an excessive learning curve with them, again with answers to questions which I never had had answered before, and it is wonderful of Wolfgang to put up the space so easily. All the best! J.

If I would write the german phonetic sound of IAM, it really
looks funny: "eihjähm" [:D]
A good idea may be to show the AYAM and your dutch version to a person
who is not familiar with english (which may be quite
difficult for dutch people).
Show them the words printed out and let them pronounce it.
See what results you are getting and when it gets close enough
write down two approximations.

About the webspace: no prob

Post by: yogani on October 06, 2006, 01:23:15 AM
Hi Yogini and Wolfgang:

There have been long discussions on the pronunciation of the "I AM" (AYAM) mantra here in the forums. There is no perfect version of it, and neither is it crucial. But we do need a reasonable starting point.

The pronunciation I intend in the lessons is "I AM" as they say it on the American or British evening news -- minus the meaning, of course.

Deep meditation is an inner picking up of the sound vibration in thought, soon fading to fuzziness where the pronunciation becomes indistinct. It is only a faint feeling at those very silent levels of the mind, with corresponding slow-down in body-wide neurobiological activity. In following the procedure of deep meditation, we may come back to the mantra faintly and indistinctly also, depending on the course of purification occurring in the nervous system, which determines the level of our mental activity. We gently favor less, letting the mantra refine naturally.

So, in the translations, we are giving a starting point for deep meditation. The "I AM" sound vibration is what we use in AYP. The same goes when we are adding mantra enhancements, which come later in the lessons. The mantra enhancements provide a broader starting point in thought and, upon refinement in deep meditation, give us a bigger footprint in inner silence.

Hi Yogini and Wolfgang:

The Dutch translation site has been added today to the links sections of the three AYP websites and main AYP Yahoo group. The list has also been updated at the beginning of this topic. The German translation site (a joint effort) has already been posted in all these places for some time.

So, currently, we have six translation sites in all. Thank you translators!

Cool!
I mentioned on the Dutch site that one new translation per week will be added. I've just come back from a trip (trying to meditate on the plane, totally unsuccesfully, as I fell asleep:-) ) but hope to get back in the rhythm also with placing further translations online later on in this week. It's great to be able to tell people where to go to with confidence in this era, both in English and in Dutch as far as I am concerned!
Thanks!
Best!

Hi All:

A Czech translation of the AYP online lessons has begun here -- http://ayp.cz/  There are plans to include a forum as well.

Also, several have asked about translating the AYP books into other languages. While this can be a challenge with all the hurdles associated with publishing physical books, it can be very easily done in eBook form. PDF eBooks in any language can be downloaded directly from the AYP website for a small cost, like is presently being done for the special edition English versions with audio introductions (http://www.aypsite.com/plus/books-xdirdownload.html). An eBook can be printed, so it can go into physical form that way. To publish a translated AYP book, all that is needed here is a formatted MS Word document in the translated language, and it can be converted into PDF eBook form for download through the AYP website.

Many thanks to all who are translating!

Hi All:

A "Google Translator" tool has been added on a test basis at the bottom of every AYP website and forum page, providing automated translations from English to about 35 other languages.

I don't know if the translator tool is very accurate, and would appreciate feedback here from anyone knowledgeable in any of these languages.

Many thanks!

Hi Yogani,

I tested the portuguese translation. Not great, very loose meaning, and most of the time it does not make sense. There are parts that are ok but then other setences are just a mess, complicating the overall picture. I am actually quite surprised how such a simple internet tool can make any sense at all but for a person really wanting to understand and knowing only portugues it is no good. On the other hand, if a person knows a bit of english and only have a few doubts, then this tool can help to clarify them. In those cases it may be helpful.

All the best.

The Hindi translation look pretty good. I am impressed.[:)]

It logs you out when you translate the page.. and when you log back in.. the page goes back to English.

It's funny when some of the usernames are translated to the Hindi words... like Bill and Porcupine..[:D]

Some words don't get translated.. not sure why. like Siddhasana.. I would think that would be an easy one to translate.

The lessons get translated too.. that is a big help I'm sure.

I will look some more.

Hi Yogaislife and Shanti:

Thanks for the feedback. I figured accuracy would be mixed. The question is whether it will be a help or a hindrance to keep the translation tool on the website.

The AYP lessons are the main reason I installed it, and was not even sure if it would work at all in the forums due to the technology differences. It is nice that it does work in the forums. It's a good thing people cannot sign in when in other language modes. We don't want to encourage posting here in Portuguese, Hindi, Chinese, etc. [:)]

PS: It is not expected that the Google translator tool can replace the fine translation work occurring on the dedicated translation sites listed at the beginning of this topic.

The tool might help with AYP lessons not yet translated by knowledgeable practitioners, or for languages that are not being covered so far.

hi yogani,

i wish the google translator could work fine but it doesn't.(it
would make a breakthrough in translating a lot of stuff which are very much
needed)

there is another program which i started using 2 weeks back, named "Babylon" that
translates the words from english to arabic in a great way but it doesn't work that great on paragraphs. (then it becomes mumbo jumbo)

up there i'm speaking concerning the translation from english into Arabic of course.

but from english to french i think it's nice. (maybe it
would work out nicely with other western languages as well)

some of the translators might find this too useful, there is a free trial that comes with it as well.

this is the link for the trial download:

Hi Ananda:

Thanks much for the feedback and suggested alternative for Arabic.

Yes, we are a long way from accurate automated translating, so don't give up your great translating effort for putting the AYP lessons into Arabic! [:)]

The good news is that automated translating will keep improving over time, and Google will surely be a leader in this due to their global reach and vested interest in world languages. So hopefully the Google translator gadget will get smarter in a few years.

More feedback from everyone on the Google (or any other) translator is welcome here. The more input we have, the more new ideas and solutions will be stimulated.

All the best!

Hi Ananda:

Thank you for the additional translation tool. If this offers a better translation for any languages than the Google tool we are currently using at the bottom of every AYP web page, do let me know. If so, we will see about trying it out. It does not seem to be a clean install, and there are commercial hooks in it, so it would have to offer significant advantages over the free Google translator tool to be considered.

Hi all,

I need some help about translation websites please. I have been the portuguese translator of AYP at http://ayppt.wordpress.com. Wordpress (as a blog site) seemed like a good choice for me as it is free and it has the possibility of adding several pages (that I use for Introduction, the Lessons, and some News and Notices).

But I saw some of the other sites (like the czeck and dutch) and I like their format better. My main complaints in my case is that the font size is very small (can't make it bigger) and there is not a lot of freedom on the format although the main complain here is the font size indeed.

I wonder if any of you have any ideas of a different internet space that is free (or at least quite cheap) where I could store the translation and where I am more free to choose font type, etc.? Or do you think I am making a big fuss about it and it is not so bad after all? [:)] Just wanted to make it look preeeeeety...[:)]

Thanks!

Hi all,

Sorry to write again. Please ignore my post above, I think it is better now as I changed the theme of the site, choosing from a new selection at Wordpress.

Now the only "drawback" is that in the lessons people have to scroll way down to continue with their reading in different occasions. I could put the lessons as a blog but the last ones translated would be the first and I would prefer the other way around...I'll have a think about it.

The Hebrew translation site link has been added to the listing in the first post of this topic, which is linked from the left border of every page of the AYP website and forums.

Also, Miguel has started a new Spanish translation site, continuing to translate beyond lessons #41, which is as far as the prior translation went as of 2006. The new Spanish site link has also been added to the list in the first post of this topic. The link is: http://es.groups.yahoo.com/group/aypcastellano

Both the Hebrew and Spanish translation links will also soon be added to the listing of translations in the Links Section (http://www.aypsite.org/Links.html) of the AYP website.

Much appreciation to you both, and happy translating. Many will benefit, not least of all the translators. [8D]

Hello,

I find the AYP site very informative and, if allowed to do so, would like to translate the lessons on the AYP site into Korean, which would then be published on an internet forum (to be created for AYP) open to the public free of charge. Would this be fine?

I look forward to your reply. Thank you. haksun

Welcome Haksun!

A translation of the AYP online lessons to Korean for free viewing would be wonderful. Thanks so much for volunteering.

The choice of type of online forum or website is up to you. You can get some ideas by checking the translations listed in the first post of this topic: http://www.aypsite.com/plus-forum/index.php?topic=440

The only requirement on this end is to provide a link back to the main AYP website (http://www.aypsite.org), so readers will know where all this is coming from, and can find us.

Translations of the AYP books are possible also, but those cannot be posted for free on the internet, since the books are the primary source of financial support for AYP. Anyone interested in doing AYP book translations can contact me via email.

Let me know when you have a Korean site up and running with the first lessons translated, and we can add the link on the AYP website listings.

All the best!

The guru is in you.

PS: A few days ago, a "Languages" link was added to the top menu on the main website, so it will be easier for new visitors to find the international translations (the link in the left border is still there too). This suggestion came from Miguel, and it is a great idea. Thanks Miguel! [:)]

Miguel has the Spanish translation website (http://sites.google.com/site/aypcas) up and running. That is in addition to the Yahoo group that was recently added. Both are included in the AYP translation listings (http://www.aypsite.org/Links.html#trans).

Hi Akasha:

Beyond the international translation links, which are kept up to date, the links page (http://www.aypsite.org/Links.html) is in need of updating, with many new links to be added, and some dead ones to be removed. The same goes for the extended booklist (http://www.aypsite.org/booklist.html) and testimonials (http://www.aypsite.org/Testimonials.html). So much has happened in the past few years, with the experiences of many practitioners advancing by leaps and bounds. The website sections mentioned will be brought up to date with the community of practitioners eventually. In the meantime, posting of new lessons will continue to be the first priority here. [:)]

Carry on!

This is one important thing in ayp also. The open quality of this place, where all we can show our ideas and they are listened by others.all can give our "2 cents".Its not very usual i think in spiritual brotherhoods, and its very important and apreciated by its "members".
Its very important to keep this open mind over the long term. Its not an easy task, due to our human limited nature.
This is the most important "master key" all we need to preserve over the long, long term.
We are joining here a real gift in our spiritual path.It must be valued highly by all of us (im sure all  we do it[:)]).
We have an incredible luck that others in the past didnt have.
If this is happening now,it means all we are prepared for that and this is the right time.
AYP is "very young" now,and like with old ancient religions, that early times were the best (the pure essence of teachings shined with great intensity),and with time, long time, many good things dissapeared.
Its very important to value this moments, and keep its pure essence over the long term.
Im sure we can do it together.

Light and love.

HI Yogani,

I am very privileged and lucky to be here.

I love the open source nature of ayp, it's non-sectarian perspective/presentation and it's blending of science and ancient wisdom, by way of clarity of explanation. It struck a deep chord with me, initially when reading your beginning lessons ( which i am still reading). It's power, efficacy and sophistication & the beautiful explanations which really resonated with me.How you explain yoga makes a great deal of sense.

I was in the relative yoga wilderness these past few years armed with only a few tools, and having encountered obstacles. In fact i got into quite a bit of bother pretty early on in my yoga path> i may have searched another 20 years here & there and everywhere, for this info., but no you have kindly  put all  up on a website. Humanity is at a stage of it's own technolgical evolution where the informaion age can herald an openens and free sharing of such tools etc. I am simply iin awe  of the tool box, and sense i am in the presence of a true yoga master, and v privilged to hae the guidance and decades of experience and wisdom  you have amassed and selflessly share here.

I would stilll be in that wilderness( a great deal of fortunate karma must have brought me here- like a bee to pollen i had to try out what you write about in those fantastic Lessons) had i not stumbled upon your site.

I am here for the long-haul.Whatever it takes, however long it takes, i'm prepared to do it.

So i'll be follwoing your lessons and the practices conatined within them. This time i will be observing self-pacing,ahhh, that lovely principle.

I have certainly has some changes since 6wks ago,but sense  there may be more to come..

I feel my toolbox is FULL and look forward to seeing what it can do.

My hunch is that ayp is possibly one the best most integrated and all-encompasing systems out there.I guess it could be tailored  in the manner of open-source particular ot the individual.Opens-source both in terms of the nature of the community ( we are all One) like Miguel says and in terms of the nature of horizontal transmission of the teachings, peculiar to an information age.

But like you say practitioners have to try out the practices, themself, that is put the wheels into motion to harvest the fruit.

I really was in the darkness, but it looks like things may well be changing, if i put in 120% (gentle) self-effort on my part.

Yours humbly,with gratitude,
Another Aspirant.

Hi kashiraja:

That would be wonderful. I will email the person administering the German translation site, Wolfgang, with copy to you, and hopefully the German translation can be carried forward.

It is also possible to copy from the existing translation and then carry it forward on your own site, with the link added to the AYP website where many can find it. This has happened with the Spanish translation, and it is fine. Whatever can get the job done. [8D]

Hi ConsciousEvolution:

That's wonderful! [:)]

There are two possible paths. First is to contact the active translator, if any, and see if a combined effort can work. I say "if any" because several of the translations are not being actively worked on. In some cases, the former translator may not be reachable anymore.

If there can be a collaboration, great. Try for that first, as the translation work can go faster that way.

If a collaboration is not feasible, for whatever reason, then you are free to use what has been done (copy it), start your own site, and continue on translating new lessons. It may seem to be a sloppy approach, with multiple translations out there at various levels of completion, but this is the best way I have found to keep the translations going. It is challenging work, and no one is to be faulted for stopping after while. The main thing is for others who are inspired to be able to pick up what has been done and run further with it. That way, eventually all the translations will be done. [:)]

I will be happy to list any new translation links on the AYP website and forums.

Maybe Miguel can use some help. The Spanish translation is up to Main Lesson 90 and Tantra Lesson 4.

The Hebrew translator is Yonatan. You can find an email link for him by clicking on his ID in the member list or anywhere in the forums. (There is an email link on the Hebrew website too.) The Hebrew translation is up to Main Lesson 17. If you can help it go further, that would be terrific.

Many thanks!

Hey,

Do i see it right, that there are two german translations which end up early in the pranayama part?

If so, and im willing to translate, can i use these resource and start a new site? How free am i in design questions? Its just that it would be a lot more fun, not only to translate but also to place it in a whole new environment... because these german resources are rather... not so... beautiful as they could be :)

Thanks

Hi Pan:

You can do whatever you like with presentation, as long as you are not altering the content of the lessons (including mixing with other content like reader discussions on the same page), and link back to the main English website so readers can find us.

FYI, the German translation listed first is active (the second is inactive). The translator is kashiraja (http://www.aypsite.com/plus/forum/pop_profile.asp?mode=display&id=3037). You may want to drop him a line to see if a joint effort makes sense. Or do your own thing, as described in my post above (http://www.aypsite.com/plus-forum/index.php?topic=440&whichpage=3#68374). If you develop a site, let me know the link so we can add it to the list. The one with the most lessons completed goes on top. [8D]

It is the same sound as the English words "I AM," however that may be spelled in German. In English "AYAM" is pronounced the same. AYAM can be viewed as a Sanskrit derivation, which would be pronounced the same everywhere. This additional spelling was provided in the lessons to make it clear that the mantra is a sound without meaning used in deep meditation. The important thing is to convey the sound, not any meaning.

Miguel: Looks like my friend is quite busy and won't be able to do any translation work these days.

However, I wouldn't mind putting my Spanish to the test one of these days by doing some translation work but only if someone can go over them before publishing because they might not be up to par.

In the meanwhile, I'm helping out with Hebrew.

I just wanted to express my gratitude because notwithstanding being a native-speaker in both English and Hebrew, having to translate the lessons from English to Hebrew requires piercing deeper than the first time I had read them and is providing me with precious clues and insights in a time when they are highly needed by me as I am experiencing some difficulties with the Deep Meditation process.

Thanks!

A question for Yogani:

I'm translating from English to Hebrew right now, at a pretty good pace.
Reading through my translations, they look alright. They seem professional and the vocabulary used is quite good.
The original meaning is conveyed.
The thing is, that they feel mechanical to some extent. There's something a bit lifeless about them.
Remember, Hebrew does not come from Latin so it's quite a different language.
I've been trying to be very loyal to the original text but the problem is that that somehow renders my translations a bit cold, with not enough soul. On the other hand, I might have to wander off quite a bit from the original in order to render them friendlier and more soulful, and then they might not be as accurate and loyal to the original text as they are now.

Anyway, you get my drift...

So? What's your advice? What are the guidelines, what's the preference?
In short, may I take the liberty to simplify it and make it more user-friendly in Hebrew, a different language, or do I stay loyal to source as literally as I can?

Thank you Kindly,

CE

Hi, it's a fine point :)

What I'm asking myself while translating is this: am I understanding, am I seeing what is actually written? And then, if yes, how do I express this in my language? When you work like this - reexpressing the deeper idea because you see what is being pointed to in a particular sentece - then translation is not mechanical. It comes with time. Also, you'll get used to Yogani's style and you'll find the best ways to express certain phrases he uses repeatedly. Then it's also easier.

I think in every translation something gets lost. And it depends on the translator if he can keep the text alive throughout. Definitely keep it alive! ... while expressing the original idea :)

Enjoy the work & finding the sweet spot. :)

Agree with tadeas.

Dont be very rigid with the translations. You need to find your own stile and make it confortable to the readers without losing the message and the main idea of the text. But some adaptation to your language is necesary.

In my first steps i used to translate with 100% fidelity to the original but i realized that the lessons sounded a little strange and  were a little dificult to read.So i had to open my mind a little an lose my fears and started tranlating in a more relaxed way and thinking in the potential spanish readers. After all the lessons are translated in your language for them.

I started enjoying more the work since this decision and the message and original intention is 100% there too.It happens with a little  practice.

this is my experience.

Yes, this is exactly my experience too.
Translating the original words written from silence also allows for a deepening into our own essence, and therefore also allows for a deeper understanding. From silence....all the solutions will come. So if in doubt......as Gregory Kramer stresses in Insight Dialogue: Pause, relax and open.  This is also a good way to begin every translation session. ALL is supporting this work.

The aliveness of the text is you: Inner silence.  Trust that it will deliver the words. You will recognize the feeling inside when it is just right.

Time is so beautiful isn't it......how else could we ripen?

We do the best we can, and and that is always good enough.

Lost in translation,
[:)]

Hi again,

I just realized that my intension to make this translation, was born after a phase of stillness, as my mind desperatly tried to grab something to hold on to.

As Papaji said, the concept of every exhausting spiritual practices which gets you to your desired goal, is a new entanglement in the game of light without substance.

All that is needed, is stillness, to get back and experience what we are.

So if anyone wants to use the stuff i created so far, is welcome. If needed, i can finish the structure of the site.

Hi CE:

The purpose of the translation is to convey the content. If it can be done with some "flair" in the language being used, so much the better. Then it is coming alive in stillness.

You have good input from several here with experience translating the lessons, and I concur with their sharings.

My own "translation" went from inner silence to English, and whatever flair is in there just happened. I am sure as you get into it, you will find the same.

Many thanks, and enjoy!

Lesson 46, A. first paragraph
"This will manifest as an emptying of the lungs and then a drawing up from near the bottom of the spine".

Still a lot to go, but i thought its time to publish it, so maybe people can benefit from the first FAQ translations.

Hi kashiraja:

It is both physical and energetic (pranic). In time, it is less physical and more energetic, which is the whole body mudra effect. But that is jumping ahead. [:)]

Still a lot to go, but i thought its time to publish it, so maybe people can benefit from the first FAQ translations.

Hi Pan:

Thanks for taking the initiative. The site looks great.

While I do not read German, it appears you are using Wikipedia links to describe terms like meditation, mantra, pranayama, samyama, etc, in the AYP introduction. This can be confusing for those reading the translation, because those links many not provide a view on these terms consistent with the AYP writings. This is not to say that one is right and the other is wrong, only that they are not going to be consistent. It would be fine to use such links in a general discussion about spiritual practices, but not in an introduction that is specific to the AYP system. The Yogani Wikipedia link is fine, but it is requested to move the others out of the AYP introduction. Then I will be happy to add your translation link to the list.

The same goes for any definitions, commentary or forum discussions by others. They should be kept separate from the AYP lessons to minimize confusion about what is AYP writing and what is coming from other sources.

Regarding translating the Forum FAQs, that may not be an easy task. These will be changing over time, and they usually link to multiple other forum topics. It may be best to leave translation of the forum FAQs, and the forums in general, to the automated Google Translator Tool found at the bottom of every website page. That tool is far from perfect, but does address what is current. There is no way anyone can manually translate the thousands of topics in the forums, at least not in this lifetime. [:)]

Many thanks!

All that is needed, is stillness, to get back and experience what we are.

Hi Yogani,

Lesson 46, A. 6th paragraph.

"So, the effect of meditation on chakras is to calm them, to still them."

It is clear to me what I have to translate.

But, to my understanding the calming concerns only the lower three chakras. The upper three chakras are stimulated.

Hi kashiraja:

I'll stick by what is said in the lesson. Deep meditation cultivates inner silence throughout the nervous system, and beyond. Experiences may vary from time to time. Such is the process of purification and opening in each of us, and the unfathomable karma behind it. It is all stillness in action. [8D]

Yup, ive seen your translation, but i wanted to fit it in a more suitable design, which motivates more to read the stuff :)
The other reason to do my own thing is, that i have another translation style, i try to translate it as near as possible.

Hi Yogani,
today I counted the hits on the lessons of my german translation.

http://ayp.forenworld.eu/portal.php#n

Altogether it is about 1000 hits in about three month on meanwhile about 50 lessons.

That's not too much and while I can't proof that I guess that almost everyone of that hits came through my own advertesing on different german forums.

The reason why I think so is first, that my advertesing on german sites should be good for the above mentioned hits.
Second: Your link to the foreign translations is rather hidden behind many other things. S.o. has to be proficient in English and read and click a lot through your pages before he will find out, that there are some translations, maybe even in his own language. But such a person doesn't need a translation. For him it is best to stick with the original version.

But s.o. stumbling on your site having difficulties to understand because of his poor english won't make it to the translations and maybe is lost for ayp.

Therefore my suggestion: Isn't it possible to integrate into each of your sits a flag with the link(s) of the language where a translation is available as it has become standard for websites.

Everyone interested in a translation will first look out for such a flag indicating his own language.

Hi kashiraja:

Flags would be great, but so far I have not figured out how we could do that with multiple translations at different levels of completion. That is why we have kept using a list.

The list is actually in two places, at the beginning of this topic, and in the AYP website links section. On the main website, direct links to the list are given in three places on every page (top menu, left side menu, and bottom link along with the Google translator tool), and in the forums in two places on every page (left side menu and bottom link along with the Google translator tool). Admittedly, the reader has to be able to recognize the words "languages" or "international translations" to find these.

It would certainly be a plus to use a masthead of flags somewhere and link that to the translations list in the links section. Will put it on the "to do" list.

Thanks for the suggestion, and for the German translation work. I am sure the traffic will grow over time. We'll do what we can on this end to help.

The guru is in you.

PS: I was informed recently that the Arabic AYP translation has over 100 readers now. That is pretty exciting. It is not so much about absolute numbers as it is about how we are doing this year compared to last year. It is all growing... [:)]

Title: International Translations of AYP Lessons & Books

Hi kashiraja and All:

A "flags icon" has been added on top of the left side border on all AYP website and forum pages. It links to a new translations page (http://www.aypsite.org/translations.html) that replaces the translation links that were on the links page.

It was not practical to provide individual flag links to translations in the various languages, because we have more than ten human (manual) translations (more than one for some languages), plus the Google Automated Translation Tool covering about 35 languages. So we are linking to one page that has everything on it, and hopefully easier to find now with the "flags icon" on the top-left of every page.

Thanks for the suggestion. May many more people easily find the AYP writings in their own language. [:)]

Hi All:

There could be some complaints about using the Arab League flag for Arabic and the Spanish flag for Spanish, since both languages are used elsewhere. The idea was to designate each language with a small graphic that would be easily recognizable by those who would not recognize their language spelled in English. Using the flag for the source country/region seemed reasonable, and unmistakable.

An alternative would be to spell the language out in its corresponding script, like is done in the Google Translator, which would be more difficult.

Hopefully what has been done is reasonable and will not offend anyone. There is much else to be working on here. [:I]

mmmm...yes,thats is an important thing yogani. Each "spanish language" country has its own flag and identity and i suposse they dont like to be represented with the spanish flag....theres lot of historic conflict on this[xx(]

On the other hand the spanish flag is the more easy to recognize flag for our language (sadly due to not very enlightened past circunstances/events/actions),so i think its the best option from my point of view...

Hi Miguel:

Well, the Spanish flag is the accepted icon for Spanish in translator devices and services, as is the Arab League flag for Arabic. Both are also found in the multi-flag icon added on the top-left of the website and forum pages, which is a standard layout used for language translators. In this case, the flag icons are not country designations. They are easy-to-recognize language designations. No politics in that.

The guru is in you.

PS: Brazil could complain about the Portuguese flag, and the USA could complain about the UK flag (if we used it). It could go on and on. From a practical standpoint, the places where the languages originated are the most logical icons to use -- easily recognized.

Hi Pan:

They were written in the order shown. The time stamps were copied from Yahoo Groups, and there must have been a discrepancy. Lessons 62 and 63 are shown as 1:23 pm and 1:24 pm on Yahoo now, both on Dec 31, 2003.

We have not used time stamps on website lessons for some time, and you are not required to use them. The date is good enough.

a technical question.

Did you organize your website in a way that you had only to change one or two pages or files in order to integrate the flag icons or had you to go through all pages and change them.

If the first case, how did you do that?

Hi kashiraja:

The AYP website is managed with MS Frontpage, with optional top, bottom, left and right borders. The borders can be applied to all pages with one action. So a change or addition in a border is reflected on all pages that are turned on for borders. Other website software packages have similar (and more advanced) capabilities. It is very common for menu maintenance and other site-wide display information. Frontpage is a bit out-of-date, but it works for us.

In the early days, we did not have border capability, and it made website maintenance much more labor-intensive, with severe limitations on what additional information (and menu modifications) we could display on the hundreds of pages on the website. Thank goodness we got beyond that, because now we have twice as many pages. [8D]

The guru is in you.

PS: The AYP Support Forums software has border capability also (not part of MS Frontpage), and that is how the same border information and features (like the Google Translator on bottom of page) are shown on the thousands of pages in the forums.

@Yogani and Panthau
thanks for the information.

Now I used good old Frontpage 2002 and created the Web-Site for my German Translation. (I didn't think the 500€ for Dreamweaver was worth it)

The link is www.fyü.de. This three letter domain was still available, so I reserved it. But I am only redirecting from there to an other domain. The umlaut character "ü" might pose some problems for foreign keybords (and with linking on forums like this one) but for german keybords thats quite convenient. (Alternatively but I don't know for how long you get to that web-site via the domain www.parsiwal.de.)

The message board, that I used till now for postsing the lessons will become the German support-forum for that web-site and the link can be removed from the language list.

Yogani, how did you integrate your message board into your web-site?

Do you think I could do that with my board too?

Thanks

Title: International Translations of AYP Lessons & Books
Post by: yogani on August 12, 2010, 01:46:33 PM
Hi kashiraja:

Nice start with Frontpage. [:)]

Which link do you want to use for your German translation?

Yes, the "ü" might create some difficulties. It already has in your post above, where the forum cannot automatically create the link. Perhaps it can be manually inserted. Not sure about displaying it with a working link on the AYP website. Will have to see.

Regarding getting the forums together with the lessons, we have the English AYP lessons and  support forums hosted together on the same server under the same domain -- www.aypsite.org . This was possible because the forum software we are using can be installed under any domain on a server with suitable database capability. You may or may not have that flexibility with your forum software. There is an advantage having both the AYP lessons and forums under the same domain name, and kept public. It greatly increases search engine exposure for both. This has made AYP easy to find (on purpose or accidentally) on the web.

Hi kashiraja:

I was able to install the www.fyü.de (http://www.fyü.de) link both in the first post (http://www.aypsite.com/plus-forum/index.php?topic=440) of this topic and on the translations page (http://www.aypsite.org/translations.html) of the main website. The link is made active (including in this post) with manual coding of the URL.

FYI, the link is hijacking the browser address window (in Firefox) with itself for all pages opened from your website. This may have to do with the forwarding function.

Hi yogani,

I have now two domains fyü.de and fyue.de, the latter with webspace, where the lessons now are hosted. Every page of this site now has its own address.

I even have installed a forum under that same domain. That however isn't so easy to maintain as the other one and I haven't found the clue, how to put links back to the main site from that forum and how to integrate it into my site as you did. Do you have the same borders at your forum as with the other pages of your site.

Maybe I have to install an other forum software than that which came with the webspace.

Hi Panthau,

yes I have taken the flag egg from your site and hope it isn't copyrighted. I think it looks far better than the rectangular flag table and would like to keep it. Is that o.k?

I have noticed that you have a forum too. While I think it poses no  problem for the reader if she or he can chose from two or more translations, if we have as much forums that will be the death to each of them and won't help anyone seeking advice. Some feedback in regard to the own site is desireable of course. But if it comes to the discussion of the lesson substantials, we should try to concentrate the discussion on one forum.
Title: International Translations of AYP Lessons & Books
Post by: Panthau on August 18, 2010, 04:54:39 PM
I hope too that it isnt copyrighted, as i have it from google and just modified it a bit :)

I would even rather put our translations together. In the beginning your speed in lesson translation
was rather slow (in my opinion, of course), and you only maintained a forum. Now you´re spending much more time with your translations
and made even a good looking website (even if you just copied the original style, still looking good), so i think we could just work on one site together.
Or even share our translation. I could make the odd and you the even numbers, or so :)
Of course, there´s still a difference in our translation style, but in the end its only important that the reader gets the content. Isnt it?

Of course its also fun to fight for the better website, and i can get quite obsessive with that. But its also somehow destructive and not
very yoga like, as i wrote you in my pm :)

Hope to hear from you!
Pan

Hi Kashiraja and Pan:

Kashiraja, I see the individual URLs are now coming up when going from fyü.de, and these are on fyue.de. Do you want to leave the translation link as fyü.de, or change it to fyue.de? It seems to be working okay now. If it isn't broken, maybe we don't have to fix it.

Regarding the forum, nothing wrong with leaving it where it is and linking back and forth between the lessons and forum. This too has advantages -- not all the eggs in one domain/server basket. To get it under the AYP lessons domain would require either resident software on your hosting service (which could not be moved), or an installable (and movable) software. The one being used here (Snitz) is installed in a folder ("forum") on the aypsite.org server and can be moved if needed. Yes, the Snitz software has a border feature similar to MS Frontpage, so the borders look the same, even though they are coming from two different sources. You may or may not be able to do something similar on resident forum software, or on a separate forum/blog site like you have.

While I prefer that you and Pan work it out on how to proceed with lessons and forum(s), I do agree with Pan that one German AYP forum community would be better than two. Building an online community is a long and tedious process, and is best undertaken as a group effort in one place. Not so with lesson translations, which can be put up on the web by anyone who is translating. Translation collaborations are fine, but not essential. I'd say a collaboration to build an online forum community is essential. There have been many involved in building the AYP community here, and I am very grateful to everyone who has pitched in.

My interest is in seeing the AYP lessons out there, and however that gets done is fine here. The reason we got into multiple translations in the same languages is because it is a big effort and there is a fatigue factor that sometimes comes, and any translation effort may stop at some point. This is perfectly understandable. New translators who come along can rarely gain access to existing translation websites to continue them, so we came up with the "copy and continue" scheme, which has worked pretty well. It is sort of like a relay race -- one person carries the baton, and then another person carries it. It was not originally intended to be a competition between two active translations, but if the two of you are enjoying it, that's fine too. Whatever works. [:)]

It is up to the two of you to work it out, or continue separately -- your choice. Btw, someone in Berlin emailed me recently, asking if they could assist in German translation of the lessons. I suggested he contact either or both of you and offer services. Or if that did not work, he could continue the relay with yet another German translation! We don't want to hold anyone back who wants to translate. Don't know if you will hear from this person, but thought to mention it. It is wonderful that interest for AYP in Germany is on the rise.

Pan, I was looking at your site to see where you are in translating the lessons. With all the lesson titles translated in the directory, it was difficult to see how far the actual translated lessons go. Most lesson titles in the directory give a "nothing here" message when clicked on. Maybe I missed something, not being a German reader. How does one find out how far the translated lessons go without having to click on a bunch of the titles?

Many thanks to both of you, and onward with German AYP! [8D]

I recently put up a "Aktuellste Übersetzung: Lektion 78" on top of the page, which means "Most recent translation: Lesson 78". I had this all the time on my mind somehow, but got it done when i was inspired by Kashirajas solution :)

Im still highly motivated to go on with my translations, my fatigue factor will come for sure... still waiting :)

Im happy if im able to do something positive for humanity, even if it is such a small portion :)

much we will have to laugh. Until then, lets just keep clearing the garbage that lies between the love that connects us.

Hi Yogani,

thanks for your advices.
I think the link is okay.
Another question: How do I get the AYP-Icon into the tabs of the brousers.

Hi Panthau,

sometimes I have more time for the translations sometimes less.

Generally I think now as the the main lessons for meditation and pranayama are posted there is no need for hurry in our translations. It is more important to present a quality product comparable with a commercial translation so the reader hasn't to bother with impurities that get in through our translation.

To assure high quality in my translations I got to a routine of at least five times going through each lesson.

1. I read the lessons for myself generally one lesson or page -whatever is less - a day using the book. This way I reached beyond lesson 200 already
2. I make a first draft translation of the lessons running several lessons or weeks in front of the lessons I am currently posting.
3. After letting rest the lessons for several weeks I carefully go through my first translation, comparing sentence for sentence with the original.
4. After completing a lesson this way I leave it at least for one night and reread it checking for understandability and orthographical mistakes. Ofttimes in the desire to be exact in the translation I get into English syntax and that makes it more difficult for a German reader to understand. So where I deem necessary I try to find ways of expressing the same thing in a literary good German way.
5. After having posted a lessons I again wait several weeks before rereading it once more checking for mistakes and understandability.

This procedure takes time and I won't force it, for I only like to work on my translations when I feel good about it and enjoy.

This way there will be no problem maybe after a last step of getting an other person to check for understandability and mistakes to publish what has been posted before.

Besides I am already working on the translation of the AYP deep meditation booklet.

I had come till lesson 71 with my draft translations when my posts had reached only lesson 51. Then I saw that you would soon be ahead of me and I thought maybe I could use your translations as my draft translations, so I translated no more new lessons as draft. That of course sped up my postings. Having now used one of your lessons and remodeling it into my style I think that might help to save me some time but not too much. Because I find many passages that I want to have changed, sometimes considerably. There is hardly a sentence that goes unalterd. As you said our styles are rather different. What is more in your Austrian German you use some words, that we in Germany don't use and you are using many foreign words where I try to find German expressions whenever possible. So you won't notice where I rely on your translation as draft or on my on.

Now I am indeed asking myself whether it would be better for me to return to my old system which has the advantage that I learn more doing everything myself and doing the most important work, the first translation. I don't have to change a lot, when the first translation is my own, but sometimes I even forget a whole sentence.
May be I will go back to my 5 step translation and just look to your version if at difficult passages I want to know how you did your job. Sometimes you have really good ideas and I follow your version or take up one of your expressions. But our overall products are very different.

My schedule is to translate about 100 lessons a year and one of the booklets, the rest of the booklets in the year after publishing everything in the same way as Yogani did including the two books with the lessons. But there is no need for hurry. The demand for this instruction in German is not yet so great as it is in the English speaking community. And since I want to publish everything I am  after quality (as I understand it) from the beginning.

So from that it is clear that I want to do my own translation of everything. If you like you can use things from my site for example the graphics of yoga asanas (lesson 71) which I edited, use my translation as your draft or even post my unaltered translations but then only with a notice of origin and link back to my page.

Concerning a support forum: as does Yogani I think it will be a hard job to get it going and it might take several years till our community is considerable. Today it is only an offer.  When people begin to use it is uncertain. I guess that will only be when the lessons have become rather popular with the population that speaks only German.
So we should agree upon one forum and moderate it together.

Best regards

I find it rather curious that you´re using my translations to "restyle" them without even telling me.
You can of course do that, though i´d find that more work then to translate it directly. Maybe it makes
more sense for you to stick with the book, so you dont have to copy my translations and graphics to save time.

Do you think anyone would´ve appreciated it, if i would´ve taken your translations, when i started my website, to restyle them to my own?

I think its a great thing that you´re translating the book, but i see a lot of spelling mistakes and off-centered graphics
on your website. As Yogani says, its better to not divide your attention sometimes.

Besides that, im planning to search optimize my site, and also use google adwords to promote it, as i have experience
with that from my own company website. It doesnt matter anyway if and how much people are visiting our sites,
as there are at least two of us, who benefit from their translations :)

Nevertheless im always promoting aypsite.at to my customers, if they are interested... i have a good feeling that
this whole thing makes sense :) :)

Edit: I thought about your suggestion to moderate a forum together, but i dont feel like doing so. Your actions so far didnt give me a trustworthy feeling, you´re not answering my pm´s, your copying things from my website without telling or asking me, and last but not least, you´re reaction was kind of strange when i reached your translation level, as you got in a weird hurry to keep on up with me - which isnt a bad thing, when theres a positive feeling behind it. Right now it feels destructive for me.

Hi Panthau,

I am sorry.

But I am still experimenting with what is the best and easiest way of doing my job.

Rewriting your lessons really takes much time. It saves one step but maybe it takes even more time than doing the translation according to my old system. But I indeed feel better about it because in my eyes it is very sensible to build upon the work of others. There is no use of everyone inventing the wheel himself. After the wheels have been invented there is a lot that can be added.

If I want to make the best translation possible I have to use all the information available, my own knowledge, dictionaries, google – and the thought-work that has been done by other individuals. That's kind of scientific standard. It is honorable to get to the same results as someone else by his own, but that does not bring us a step ahead.
If there is no other translation, I can do it myself. But if there is another translation it wouldn't be diligent leaving that completely unconsidered, even though there is only little improvement that can be gained by considering it.

That's the way even great poets work. They look how others have done their job and get inspired to do their own creative work, building upon the former accomplishment and improving it.

I know that Yogananda did not look left nor right when giving his great commentaries on the Gita and the Bible. But sorry, I am not yet as great.

If you don't like the way I am going forward just be patient, hold your translations back wait till I have posted mine. But if your translation is available it is my duty to look upon it now and than in order to make it a part of my thought process, thereby improving my own work.

Maybe it comforts you to know that I have already begun with my draft translations of the tantra lessons. That's like driving in deep powder snow.

Concerning PM: I don't like using them. In the beginning I was using PM in communication with Yogani. I told him from the start what I was planning and going to do. Had you known that you wouldn't be surprised from what you are seeing now.

It would be helpful could you specify more clearly, what you mean by spelling-mistakes and off center graphics. It would surprise me that after more than 7 years of study in German literature and language and 3 years work as German teacher at a Gymnasium I make too much spelling-mistakes using an up to date text-processing program.

The spelling-mistakes I see on your page concern almost exclusively “s”,”ss” and “ß” and some punctuation marks. There has been a reform of rules in recent years that I thought was introduced in Germany, Austria and Switzerland in the same way.

Have a good time and be happy.

I AM (God) is the only Intelligence and Presence acting (translating).

Haha i like you. Its ok. Its a good feeling beeing the original translator.

About the gfx and spelling mistakes, two examples:
1.directly on the main page "AYP-Advanced Yoga Practeces von Yogani"
2. the language gfx seems miss-placed, especially in higher resolutions. Try using the IETester, its a useful app: http://www.my-debugbar.com/wiki/IETester/HomePage

Of course my page isnt perfect as well, im just putting all my energy and attention into it. Therefore im faster and more focused on one thing, but thats a matter of taste.

Have a good time,

Hi Yogani,

I habe some difficulty understanding and translating this sentence:

"Everything we have done so far as been from the root on up, above siddhasana, which is systematic stimulation at the perineum." Tantra 1 penultimum Paragraph first sentence.

Can I read this sentence as: "Everything we have done so far [h]as been from the root on up, above [all] siddhasana, which is systematic stimulation at the perineum."

Hi kashiraja:

Yes, that is a typo, and should read, "Everything we have done so far has been from the root on up..."

That typo has been hiding there for for nearly 7 years, and you are the first to mention it! It has been corrected (in the last paragraph) here: http://www.aypsite.com/plus/T1.html

Not sure what you mean adding the word [all]. The reference is meant to be physical and energetic, meaning that in sitting practices we work mainly from the perenium upward. When working with sexual energy in tantric mode, a much wider range of energy flow is accepted. As we know, sexual energy can go either way. This is why success with tantric sex depends largely on our sitting practices, because the upward bias for sexual energy comes from abiding inner silence. The techniques of tantric sex do not work very well without that necessary prerequisite, as many have found. The good news is that tantric sexual techniques work very well when abiding inner silence is present.

Many thanks!

Hi Yogani,

I wondered whether "above siddhasa" is meant to stress Siddhasana es technique so I thought it should read "above all"

So "above" is meant locally. But with this you are excluding all those who don't or can't practice siddhasana for any reason. But of course one can use a prosthetic.

Thanks.

P.S.: In your AYP book "Easy lesssons for an ecstatic living" I find typos now and then. Should I make a list or do you have enough feedback already.

Hi kashiraja:

No, siddhasana is not being emphasized as essential. It is only mentioned as an example to point out where sitting practices have their "floor." Of course, it is not that precise, because the rise of ecstatic conductivity, with or without tantric sexual methods in the picture, is a "whole body" experience. The point of the lesson is to say that we can look beyond (or below) the sushumna (spinal nerve) to illuminate the sushumna, which is the role that tantric sex plays in the overall scheme of things. That simple idea overrides many stigmas about sex, and sets the stage for introducing the practical methods in the tantra lessons.

Keep in mind that each lesson was written at a point in time, with a particular frame of reference related to the structure of practices that had been introduced at that time. It would be accurate to say that the lessons have evolved quite a lot over time to take an increasingly broader view corresponding with the evolution of the community of practitioners. In doing so, we have been continually building understanding and refined application of the core practices that were introduced in that first year. So, ultimately, the best way to regard any particular lesson is from the perspective of the whole of AYP we see today, and what people are experiencing in using the baseline system of practices. It continues to evolve, and with pretty good results, I think.

Of course, each lesson should be translated "as is" to reflect what it delivered when written, minus the typos. [:)]

Any typos found in the AYP books can be emailed to me. Records of these are being kept, and someday they can be incorporated in future editions.

Thanks!

The guru is in you.

Hi Yogani and fellow translators,

I write to you for advice on launching a sister (2nd) Chinese translation site. As you know, there are two sets of Chinese characters: the simplified used in mainland China and the unsimplified in Taiwan and Hong Kong. It's not very difficult to learn to recognize the simplified if one already knows the unsimplified. But there still be some difficulties that I worry might become an obstacle for readers from Taiwan and Kong Kong (It's more complicated for Hong Kong people, because their writing often reflect Cantonese in stead of Mandarin.) I'm thinking of launching a parallel blog in unsimplified Chinese. Will this cause confusion or possible communication complex between the two groups of aypers?

Hello all,

I have a question on the Dutch translations. It seems that the process of translating has been stopped for a while, and I would like to offer my assistance. Maybe the Dutch translator can contact me to share his/her ideas on this?

I also had an idea about the international translations page. All the different languages are named in English. There are of course also the flags, but maybe the accessibility for non English speakers would be improved if their language was also named in their native tongue. For example: the word 'Dutch' in the Dutch language is very different from English, namely Nederlands. It could be confusing for some. Just an idea :)

Kind regards!

Hi Medea:

The Dutch translator is no longer available. It is a long time since anything has been done with it. If you would like to pick it up, you can copy what has been done, edit it as needed, and use your own website to share it. The current Dutch site is not accessible for editing or additions, so it would be very good to launch a new site for active translation work. I will be happy to add the link to the list of translations. There are plenty of tips on getting started in this topic. Check my previous posts here.

Regarding the naming of languages in their own language, it had occurred here, but I was not sure we could handle the fonts in all cases. It is one of those things on the list of things to do. Thanks for pointing out the benefits of doing it sooner rather than later. [:)]

Btw, if you would like to be listed as a "planning contact" on the AYP contacts page (http://www.aypsite.com/plus/events.html) for the Netherlands, email me with preferred name, location (city/region) and email to use. We can also put your website link there, if and whenever you have one.

Wow, that is really terrific. Thanks so much for picking up and carrying forward the AYP sharing in French. Looks like many are noticing. Bravo! [:)]

Let me take this opportunity to share that we have added a new translation of the online lessons to the list a few days ago -- Farsi/Persian (the language of Iran), by Roshan, which is a mother and son team. Thank you, Roshan!

Also, as you may know, several translations of the AYP Enlightenment Series books have been going on, beginning with Deep Meditation. Links to these on their respective translation websites are going to be added to the AYP books page soon. So far, what we have going on in book translations is:

Czech -- Deep Meditation and Spinal Breathing Pranayama (both available), and Self-Inquiry (in progress)

Bulgarian -- Deep Meditation (available)

Norwegian -- Deep Meditation (available)

German -- Deep Meditation (in progress)

Spanish -- (in progress)

Anyone interested in doing translation of the small (100 page) AYP Enlighenment Series books, beginning with Deep Meditation, let me know, and details can be provided.

Many thanks to all who are translating the AYP writings, and all the best!

Hi All:

As per my post above a few days ago, the book translations have been added to the main books page here: http://www.aypsite.com/plus/books.html#trans

This is also cross-linked with the online lessons international translations page (http://www.aypsite.org/translations.html), so those who are there can find the books, and vice versa.

Please be sure to alert me of any new book translations you are working on so we can list them as "pending" on the books page with a link to your website. Also let me know when a translation is available, no longer pending.

Also, anyone doing a translation can contact me for materials that can help with formatting and cover creation.

For anyone contemplating doing AYP book translations, the place to start is with Deep Meditation. From there, it unfolds naturally. [8D]

Thanks all, and happy translating!

While I don't read German, it looks like the German translation of the Deep Meditation book is now available in paperback and ebook formats.

So I have changed its status from "pending" to active here: http://www.aypsite.com/plus/books.html#trans

Please advise if this is incorrect.

So now we have the Deep Meditation book available in German, Norwegian and Czech -- and with Spanish and Bulgarian in the works.

When the status changes on pending book translations, or if new translations on any AYP books are being undertaken, please let me know. We'd like to keep the books page listing up to date.

Good things are happening with the AYP translations into arabic, Maheswari is translating and I am reviewing editing and publishing on the net... Of course Maheswari is doing the real hard work... Much thanks Maha[:)]

She is also working on translating the deep meditation book into arabic[:)] And we both agreed that if any of the books are sold all the money will go to AYP's donation account; We don't want any share.

Also there's been a big increase in the number of people from the middle east who are interacting with me on a daily basis[:)] and good things are happening...

Bravo!

Thank you both for your fine work. Behind the many progressive changes occurring in the Middle East is abiding inner silence, especially in the young.

The guru is in you.

PS: Let me know when any book translation is announced on the Arabic website, and we can link to it from the international translations section (http://www.aypsite.com/plus/books.html#trans) on the books page on the English AYP website. It can be done well before publication as "pending."

Hi All:

A contract has been signed for the first three books of the AYP Enlightenment Series to be translated and distributed in Russian. These include Deep Meditation, Spinal Breathing Pranayama, and Tantra. The publisher is Sophia Publishing Group (http://www.sophia.ru), and the books are scheduled to be out within 18 months, second half of 2012.

It is very exciting to have these translations to Russian occurring, so many more will have access to the AYP writings.

The books have been included as "pending" in the international translations section of the AYP books page (http://www.aypsite.com/plus/books.html#trans). The links there are coming to this announcement post. When purchase locations for the Russian books become available, the links will be updated.

The inquiry for these translations came directly from the publisher. At this time we do not have a Russian AYP online lessons website. If anyone is interested in getting one started, it would be very welcome, and we will have the Russian books to add to it.

We currently have international translation websites covering the AYP online lessons in 13 languages (http://www.aypsite.org/translations.html).

Many thanks to all who are helping with international translations!

now we need a second editor to make sure that our arabic is perfect [:I]....so a yoga instructor who is a friend of us accepted to do it for free(he said he will finish it in 1 month)....thus we will save the fees of a professioanal arabic editor[:p]...and  the saved money will be used in publishing....we decided it would be better to publish the book ourselves from our personal money... then we will contact few well known book distributors in Lebanon and the Middle East to disritbute and sell DM.

I think the book is good, the first editor told me we did a good job plus our friend H was only working on doing punctuations. You try and read it again and see if there is are any mistakes then send it over. I'll do the front and back cover and a friend will help in case I cannot. I'll talk with the person who will take care of the printing afterwards. Also, I think it's best if we discuss this stuff by mail between me, you and Yogani.

Hi All:

An update on the above ... these three books (DM, SBP and Tantra) are out in Russian already, a year ahead of schedule!

You can find them on the Sophia Publishing website here: http://sophia.ru/authors/yogani/allbooks.html
(if you are using the Google Chrome browser, they will offer to translate)

If you click on the individual books, numerous retail sellers can be found in Russia, the Ukraine and other Russian language territories. They also link to several online sellers.

Make sure to tell your Russian friends. [:)]

The Sophia Publishing link is also provided in the international translations section of the AYP books page here: http://www.aypsite.com/plus/books.html#trans

--------------------------------------

On another note, the Deep Meditation book in Spanish will be out in the next month, and available through the regular AYP channels for North America, Latin American, Europe and beyond. The plan is to bring all of the Enlightenment Series books out in Spanish over the next few years. Next up is Spinal Breathing Pranayama.

The DM Spanish translation work was begun by Miguel (thank you!), and completed by Nina, who is a family member here, now assisting with many aspects of AYP Publishing operations. The help is much needed. Thank you, Nina! [8D]

Wishing everyone the best on your path. Practice wisely, and enjoy!

Hi Yogani and everyone,

I just would like to let you know that two parallel websites for the Chinese translation AYP are up and are included by Yogani in the international translation link. (Thank you, yogani!)
I've tried many times before to add a more professional website to the older blog with success. But it came up like a breeze in the past a few days:)
A couple of brief notes:
The sites noted as simplified are translation in simplified Chinese (characters), and are primarily for readers in and from mainland China. And the site noted as traditional is in traditional Chinese (characters) and are mostly for readers in and from Taiwan and Hong Kong, probably Singapore, too. Basically, all Chinese readers are covered:D
The sites follow a simplified structure of aypsite.org, most of the translated lessons are found in Main Lessons page. I've translated up to Lesson 92. But it will take a few days to upload all of them.

If you have Chinese friend who'd be interested in reading ayp in Chinese, please let them know the new sites. Thanks a lot!

Hi Ananda,

Totally agree! It depends on the particular spiritual constitution of the person. Reading the lessons, too, can be a shaktipat experience, as I did personally feel. And, Maheswari, maturity involves the transformation of bhakti recognizing and adopting to the marathon dynmaic of the practice, as Yogani just pointed out.

I think that you have to understand what you are writing or the meaning of the lessons when you translate accurately so it can have a very strong effect on your practice :)

I have seen spiritual related books translated into hebrew and TV shows about spirituality that had subtitles, where I just got angry because the way they translated was not in the right context in my view, or not as accurate as I saw it from my perspective.

On the other hand there are a bunch of hebrew books that were translated from another language all by the same translator, and she translated them really really good, and I love that. She studied spirituality for a long time and was in the area of non-duality and yoga for a long time, and some of the books she translated are I AM THAT and a book of Ramana and a book about Papaji. She is really good with that. The words are very accurate how I see it and deliver the message really well. :)

Hi All:

AYP Website Upgrade for Book Translations
An Upgrade has been done to the main AYP website to better display translated books. The translations page (http://www.aypsite.com/translations.html), reached by clicking on the flags on the top left of any website or forum page, now has links under each language where there are translated books available. Also, on the main books page, "translations" with links to purchase channel pages are shown under each book title. Here is Deep Meditation (http://www.aypsite.com/books.html#dm), which has 6 translations now. Similar linked listings are shown for the Spinal Breathing Pranayama and Tantra books, with new titles and languages to be added as translations become available.

Request: Please be sure to advise on any new AYP book translations or distribution channels, so we can update the main website with titles and links.

New Spanish Website and Books
We have just launched a new Spanish AYP website, which includes lessons translated to date and a books page similar to the one on the main English website. The plan is to continue with online lesson and book translations until they are done. It will take a while, but we will get there. [:)]
Here is the new website: http://www.aypspanish.com

Request: If anyone would like to assist with translating new AYP online lessons to Spanish, please let me know. We can review them and update the website easily from here. For the current status of lesson translations, see the Main (http://www.aypspanish.com/MainDirectory.html) and Tantra (http://www.aypspanish.com/TantraDirectory.html) Lesson Directories on the Spanish website.

The Spanish Deep Meditation book is complete and available through a variety of paperback and ebook channels (see the Spanish website book listing here (http://www.aypspanish.com/books.html#dm)), including paperback, Kindle ebook, and direct download ebook from AYP. Purchase channels for the Spanish DM book are in the process of being set up and expanded.

Request: Any online bookseller suggestions for Latin America and Spain will be appreciated.

It is planned for Spanish translations of the Spinal Breathing Pranayama and Tantra books to be out in 2012.

The new Spanish website and book translations are being implemented through AYP Publishing from here by Nina, and would not have been possible to be launched this quickly wothout the previous work of Miguel in Spain and Pedro in Mexico, for which we are very grateful. Thank you Miguel and Pedro! [:)]

Hi All,

I've just finished translating the first online tantra lesson into Arabic and don't know why but it felt like being involved in a "historic event" lolll unlike translating the first main AYP lessons which without we wouldn't have gotten this far...

Maheswari is currently doing a great work in translating the main lessons, Yanal have taken some time off for a while now... Because of he got newly wed[:)]

I am still working on editing and posting the main lessons and there's brother Malek who is also helping me out and we might soon have a new editor for the tantra lessons[:)]

When I have up to 10 lessons ready, a page or a new website will be set up for the tantra lessons.

Hi Panthau:

Good to see you again, and thanks for the update on the www.aypsite.at German website. It was removed from the translations website list here (http://www.aypsite.org/translations.html) because it has not been accessible for some time. I have just put it back. Hopefully it will continue to be available.

Meanwhile, there has been continuing progress on the other German website at http://www.fyue.de , including several of the AYP Enlightenment Series books now translated and available there -- Deep Meditation, Spinal Breathing Pranayama, Tantra, and Asanas, Mudras and Bandhas.

------------------

On a related matter, both Deep Meditation and Spinal Breathing Pranayama are now available in Spanish (http://www.aypspanish.com/books.html#dm), and the Spanish online lesson translations (http://www.aypspanish.com) continue to progress gradually.

-------------------

And on still another matter, we recently signed a contract with a large publishing company in China for translation and publication of four AYP Enlightenment Series books in Chinese, beginning with Deep Meditation.

--------------------

The status of all book translations can be found here: http://www.aypsite.com/plus/books.html#trans
If any updating is needed on either the website list or book list, let me know.

Many thanks to all who are translating!

The guru is in you.

Title: International Translations of AYP Lessons & Books
Post by: yogani on November 18, 2012, 01:03:23 AM
Hi All:

For the first time, AYP in the USA has been publishing some of the translated AYP books. This is because more resources are now available for this, enabling us to make the books available in "print-on-demand" Paperback editions and eBook formats through the same international channels we use for the English books, plus expanded distribution through international distributors which can reach local book channels in the appropriate regions.

So far we have published two book translations, with two more coming soon. Here they are with links to landing pages on the main AYP website (channel links updated when available):

Deep Meditation (Arabic) -- landing page (http://www.aypsite.com/plus/books-trans-arabic.html)
Deep Meditation (Norwegian) -- landing page (http://www.aypsite.com/plus/books-trans-norwegian.html)
Deep Meditation (French) -- coming soon
Spinal Breathing Pranayama (Arabic) -- coming soon

Landing pages can be reached from links under the "Translations" (http://www.aypsite.com/plus/books.html#dm) headings under title listings on the books page, and from the "International Translations" (http://www.aypsite.com/plus/books.html#trans) section of the books page.

The Arabic and Norwegian DM books are re-issues of existing editions that were published in-country, in order to provide broader international distribution and long term availability. The French DM book is brand new, as discussed in Didier's (Buffle37) post above. Arabic SBP is also new and nearly ready for publication.

Anyone with existing translations of AYP books, or with new ones in the works, are welcome to utilize AYP USA for publishing and long term international distribution. Feel free to contact me if interested. This is something we could not do in the past, but now we can, and it is hoped that it will make it much easier for those who would like to translate the AYP books. All we need is a good Word Doc and cover text translated and we can do the rest here.

Thank you to all who have been sharing the AYP books and online lessons in many languages.

The guru is in you.

Hello Yogani!

Is there already someone translating into Finnish?

I could start working on a book translating project soon if there is a need! I used to translate technical manuals from English to Finnish as a part of my previous job, so I should have some experience on that.

The translation project would also be a good spiritual practise.

Hi chinmayo:

No, no one has done any translation work in Finnish so far. Any effort you would like to put in that direction will be much appreciated. Yes, as many here can confirm, translating the books can be like spiritual practice. [/\]

The best book to start with is Deep Meditation. It is the most popular AYP book by far. If you need any materials to help with that, please email me.

We are able to publish all translated books from here in the USA now and reach most of the world with distribution through Amazon and other channels. This does not prevent anyone from publishing and distributing in-country if so inclined. I can give you more details in email on how we go about the process. So contact me directly when you are ready for next steps.

Many thanks!

The guru is in you.

PS: For anyone interested, you can find all the translated AYP books listed here (http://www.aypsite.com/plus/books.html#trans).

We are currently completing US editions with international distribution for French Tantra, Arabic Self-Inquiry, Czech Deep Meditation and Spinal Breathing Pranayama. Chinese Deep Meditation and Spinal Breathing Pranayama are in the works also. And more books in several languages will be coming in 2014. The listings will be updated soon for all of this. Lots of translation work going on these days, and we welcome more by anyone who would like to participate. Many thanks to all who are translating!

Hi All:

We published 4 translated AYP books in paperback and ebook formats from the USA about a week ago, available through many channels around the world. Here are the landing pages:

Tantra (http://www.aypsite.com/plus/books-trans-french-tantra.html) (French)
Self-Inquiry (http://www.aypsite.com/plus/books-trans-arabic-si.html) (Arabic)
Deep Meditation (http://www.aypsite.com/plus/books-trans-czech-dm.html) (Czech -- in addition to existing in-country edition)
Spinal Breathing Pranayama (http://www.aypsite.com/plus/books-trans-czech-sbp.html) (Czech -- in addition to existing in-country edition)

Links to these landing pages are also provided on the main books page (http://www.aypsite.com/plus/books.html) under the corresponding titles, and in a separate list of international translations (http://www.aypsite.com/plus/books.html#trans) after the individual title listings.

The links on the landing pages are in the process of being activated as they become available.

Many thanks to all who have made these translations possible!

Many thanks for the insights offered on this website! For me the information on self-pacing was most helpful!
Now I would like to participate. Is anybody working on the German book on Samyama? If not I would love to get started with it.
Who is working on the German website? I would like to get involved there, too.
Instead, I could also do the Romanian book on Deep Meditation. My native tongues are German and Romanian and I am a university-trained translator. Please let me know what is needed most!
I hope in my case the translation work will have no shaktipat effect as I have to do a lot of self-pacing already. At least reading works well for me right now. I am still reading the lessons - not through yet, I have found your website just about two weeks ago!
Please let me know how to proceed. Thanks!

Hi chandi:

Thanks much for your kind offer to assist with German and Romanian translations. Forum member "kashiraja (http://www.aypsite.com/plus/forum/pop_profile.asp?mode=display&id=3037)" is the person who has been doing the translation work for the German AYP website (http://www.fyue.de/) and books. The books have been published in Germany by him, and not from here in the USA so far. I will send him an email with your offer and see if he would like some help with the Samyama book, which is the next one in line. He has been traveling in India this year, so it may take a while to catch up with him. Will let you know as soon as I hear from him. You may also contact him directly through the forum email here (click on his name above for an email link), or through the German website.

Regarding Romanian, there is no one doing translations there so far, and you can begin translating the Deep Meditation book any time you like. We can take care of the publishing from here, which can make it much easier for you. We do request that the translated book be formatted in a similar way as the English book. If you email me, I can send you text and template for that, and other information that might be helpful.

Thanks again, and all the best!

The guru is in you.

PS: And, yes, all of this is subject to your self-pacing for good spiritual progress with comfort and safety. [:)]

Hi Chandi,

thanks for your offer of help on the German translations. I am well under way with the translations and am working right now on publishing the Easy Lessons Book Part I in German the first part of which has already been published as ebook. The other parts will follow next months and the release of the paperback version will probably be in March or April.

I now even have found s.o. who is helping me in proofreading and does a very good job in doing so. Since I would like to do the translations of all the books and the website by myself I would suggest, you start the Romanian branch of this work.

Good luck!

If I could be in any assistance to you, let me know.

news of French website:

http://www.aypsite.ch/

Main lessons now on line: 342 and Tantra lessons: 65.

Lessons 343 to 351 and T66 to T67 are scheduled for August. As from lesson 337, Benoît (tantrika 78 on the forum) helps me translating the lessons. I am grateful to him for his great help giving me more time for the translation of the books.

Since 08/10/2010, this site is on the web. The stats are as follow:
visits :
2013-2014 = 151’146
2012-2013 = 92’989
2011-2012 = 47’660
2010-2011 = 22’181
hits:
2013-2014 = 5’066’800
2012-2013 = 1’830’805
2011-2012 = 475’299
2010-2011 = 166’727

The AYP Enlightenment Series translation is doing well. The first four books had been published. The last one, « Asanas, mudras et  bandhas, éveiller la kundalini extatique », on 06/15/2014. The next one, “Samyama”, will hopefully be released at the end of this year.

Hi kashiraja:

You posted it here: http://www.aypsite.com/plus-forum/index.php?topic=15034

Your offer is appreciated. As I informed you in email recently, each translator makes their own decision about where to post their translation of the AYP lessons. Most have their own full-featured websites already.

Thank you.

Hi yogani,

I think I can help with the German translation of "eight limbs of yoga".

What do I need to know? I have bought the book some time ago as ebook from the site.

Hi aguacate:

Thank you for your kind offer. We have someone in charge of German translations who has done quite a few of the books, but not Eight Limbs yet. If you would like to do some translation work on that one, you can contact me via my email here (http://www.aypsite.com/contact.html), and I will put you in touch with our German translator. Or you can contact him directly. He is Kashiraja here in the forum. The AYP German website he runs is here: http://www.fyue.de/

Many thanks and all the best!

The guru is in you.

Hi Galianna:

Sorry for the delayed response. We used to have a Bulgarian AYP website, but it is no longer online. Most of the AYP Deep Meditation book was also translated, but not published. It would be great to recover and restore that content and continue with the Bulgarian translations.

Unfortunately, I do not have any of the Bulgarian content. It would have to be obtained from the original volunteer translator. I will email him and let you know if the content can be recovered.

Many thanks!

The guru is in you.

Hello, it might bring great joy for some and add more importance and weight for the people involved in the translation work.

It has come to my knowledge recently that thousands in the arab world have been benefiting from the practices. People are grateful and some have used the tools very wisely... and have benefited a lot.
